Additional Information

Purpose:

The purpose of this program is to emphasize the importance of belonging and respectful communication in nursing education. The language educators use significantly impacts the learning experience of nursing students, shaping their confidence, professional identity, and ability to engage in the clinical setting. Respectful communication promotes an environment of equity and support, ensuring that all students feel valued and empowered in their education. In contrast, language that reflects bias, stereotypes, or assumptions can marginalize students, increasing stress and negatively affecting academic performance. By fostering respect and belonging, nurse educators can create a learning environment that supports student success and enhances the quality of patient care.

Objectives:

  • Analyze the impact of language on student learning and psychological safety by identifying strategies that foster belonging and engagement in nursing education.
  • Differentiate between “calling in” and “calling out” and apply effective communication strategies to promote a supportive and respectful learning environment.
  • Implement strategies for fostering respectful communication and belonging in educational and clinical settings to enhance student success and patient care.
