Purpose:

To assist nurse educators in understanding some of the unique challenges around receiving feedback from nursing learners, identify strategies to improve the quality of feedback learners provide, and practice utilizing a framework for processing the feedback received.

Objectives:

  • Describe at least two unique challenges related to receiving feedback from nursing learners
  • Identify at least two strategies to improve the quality of feedback learners provide
  • Describe a framework for processing feedback received
  • Utilize a framework for processing feedback received

Speakers

Amanda Cornine
Amanda Cornine PhD, RN, CNE, CNEcl

Assistant Professor of Nursing
Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing at UMass Chan Medical School

Dr. Cornine’s scholarship focuses on nursing education. She has been a full-time nurse faculty member since 2016 and been the recipient of a great deal of feedback from learners. Recently, she began teaching learners how to give constructive feedback and has noted a more collegial tone to her course evaluations.

Thin Malatesta PhD, RN

Assistant Professor of Nursing
Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing at UMass Chan Medical School

Dr. Malatesta has been a full-time assistant professor since 2022 and prior to that, she taught medical/surgical clinicals and specialized in inpatient adult critical care. Dr. Malatesta’s scholarship and research interests focus on nursing education and critical care.

Emily Green PhD, MA

Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Development
UMass Chan Medical School

Dr. Green is an educator by training. She oversees professional development programs and resources for faculty in the three schools of UMass Chan, including the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing. She has a particular interest in helping faculty educators process critical feedback received from learners.
